Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake in Kenya. It lies just north west of Nairobi and just outside of the town, Naivasha. Its name derived from the “Nai’posha”, the Masai word for “rough water”; a name which aptly describes the sudden storms which arise in the region. The lake has a vast surface area of 139 square kilometres and averages at 6 meters in depth.

Lake Naivasha is home to over 400 different bird species, making it a true paradise for avid bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. Here, you’ll also have the opportunity to see the lakes vast hippo population and other wild animals, including the big five and antelope.

What many tourists don’t know when visiting Lake Naivasha is that there are two smaller lakes in close proximity to the lake: Lake Oloiden and Lake Sonachi, a green crater lake. These lakes have an abundance of wildlife and offer guests incredibly beautiful views and exciting activities.

Visiting Lake Naivasha with Nomad Tours is a truly exciting and rare opportunity to explore this enchanting part of Kenya. Lake Naivasha is popular for its Kenyan safaris, offering guests the chance to kick back and relax while exploring the landscape and observing the wildlife. For the more adventurous, Nomad Tours will give you the opportunity to go on a bicycle safari, allowing you to do your exploring on two wheels, an exciting prospect that will take you up close to the wildlife and let you enjoy the freedom and nature that Lake Naivasha brings. The region is also popular amongst avid hikers and walkers.

For a truly unique and once in a lifetime experience, visit Elsamere, the former home of Joy Adamson who wrote the autobiographical novel Born Free and enjoy a colonial and delicious high tea while looking out on the rolling plains and wildlife.
