Overview

A showcase of Botswana with a coveted jaunt to Namibia’s Etosha National Park, this tour hangs back in Etosha for an extra, riveting day without compromising the Okavango’s spectacular route.

Beginning in Windhoek, our destination is the immediate highlight of this tour, Etosha National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your tour guide before delving into the lunar-esque landscape on a sunset safari. This is the perfect time for rarer nocturnal sightings. A full-day safari follows, with a platter of possibilities like “ghost” elephants coated in the clay and lions stalking the waterholes from the shade. Another afternoon safari on our Nomad vehicle follows, giving you another chance to spot wildlife before setting off for Divindu the next morning.

Divundu is a settlement nestled on the reeds of the Kavango River, entering the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) – an incredible cross-border conservation effort spearheading the protection of five countries’ wildlife havens reliant on the Kavango and Zambezi rivers. The sunrise brings us to a boat cruise along the river, where the water entices the herds of elephants and antelope species to its banks. After this relaxing start, we cross into Botswana, towards the gateway to the largest delta in the world: the Okavango Delta.

Taking you into the heart of the wetland, we separate from the Nomad truck and venture into the Khwai Conservation Area. Those seeking a bird’s-eye-view of the astonishing landscape can begin the day with an optional scenic flight. In the late afternoon sun, we embark on a serene mokoro (traditional canoe) excursion, skimming across the Delta’s narrow channels amongst lily pads and reeds, guided by expert polers.

The next day is a full day safari in the Moremi Game Reserve. This region is a miasma of ecosystems and biomes, where wetlands brush upon open plains and woodlands. Expect a day filled with amazing sightings and awe-inspiring natural beauty before returning to camp.

Departing from Moremi and Khwai, the route leads to Nata, skirting the expansive Makgadikgadi Salt Pans that take our route into Kansane, where the canals of the Chobe River lie. The afternoon brings a boat cruise along the Chobe River’s water, a waterway frequented by many creatures, like hippos, crocodiles, and elephants, several looking to cool off and quench their thirst.

Our expedition comes to a close as we travel up into Zimbabwe for a finale of note. Victoria Falls is our final stop, a piece of nature’s might and beauty with plenty of exciting activities to choose from – including the famous bungee and bridge swing among the gorge of the thundering waters.

Please note: This itinerary is flexible and can be changed without notice. A detailed, up-to-date dossier itinerary is available to download.

Day 1 – Windhoek to Etosha National Park

This morning, you will be met at the departure point by a representative who will be transferring you to your first overnight stop in the Greater Etosha National Park Area.  The shuttle service is expected to take between 4 – 5 hours.  Sit back, relax and enjoy the drive to the Etosha National Park area. Enjoy some time to settle in and freshen up before heading out on your first wildlife experience—a sunset safari drive in a private reserve.

Day 2 – Etosha National Park

Today is dedicated to exploring the wonders of Etosha National Park. After an early breakfast, you set off on a full day game drive into the park.  Etosha’s vast salt pan and surrounding savannah support a rich variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, and countless antelope species. Your guide will take you to several waterholes, where animals congregate throughout the day—offering incredible photo opportunities and unforgettable sightings. You return to the lodge in the late afternoon to unwind and enjoy dinner, reflecting on the day’s sightings.

Day 3 – Etosha National Park

After a leisurely morning, you’ll meet your Nomad tour leader and fellow travellers for a trip briefing and lunch. Once everyone is acquainted and settled in, we head out for an afternoon game drive through Etosha National Park.

Day 4 – Etosha Area to Divundu

We leave the white sands of Etosha behind and journey toward the Kavango River, entering the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. Spanning five countries, including parts of our route through Botswana and Zimbabwe, one of the world’s largest protected areas, supporting diverse wildlife and ecosystems. Our overnight stop in Divundu offers a glimpse into this rich natural haven.

Day 5 – Divundu
This morning we enjoy a leisurely boat cruise along the tranquil waters of the Kavango River, taking in the serene scenery, birdlife, and perhaps spotting hippos or crocodiles along the banks. In the afternoon, there’s an opportunity to embark on an optional game drive in Mahangu National Park, a hidden gem known for its rich biodiversity and frequent sightings of elephants, buffalo, antelope, and even big cats.

Day 6 – Maun
We then cross the border into Botswana and head towards the gateway to the Okavango Delta, the town of Maun. We overnight in Maun before heading for our next adventure – The Okavango Delta.

Day 7 – Khwai Conservation Area
You will be separated from your Nomad truck for the next 2 nights and it is therefore important that you pack/gather your personal belongings which you may need, before we depart Maun.  Please pack lightly and only take what you need for the following two nights.  Accommodation in Khwai can best be described as a rustic style mobile fly camp.  Your meru style tent is equipped with 2 single beds and adjoining en-suite amenities consisting of a bucket shower system and chemical toilet.  Today we make our way towards the Okavango Delta. Early risers will have the opportunity to go on an optional scenic flight over the Delta (time and weather permitting). After your optional flight, you will be collected from Maun and will be transferred to the Khwai Conservation area in smaller safari type vehicles.  Our guide will prepare us on what to expect for our afternoon mokoro excursion into the Okavango Delta. (Please note:  It is possible that the mokoro activity could take place on an alternative day depending on the season).

Day 8 – Moremi Game Reserve
Today is a full day game drive as we spend most of our day on safari in the Moremi Game Reserve in search of the species that roam the plains.  Expect some bumpy roads as we traverse this wilderness area in our 4×4 vehicles.  Offering habitats from wetland, open water to the grasslands and Savannah woodland, we hope to see as many species of fauna and flora possible.  This evening, we arrive back at Khwai to share and compare all the amazing sightings while on safari.

Day 9 – Khwai to Nata
Today’s journey from Khwai to Nata passes the Botswanan salt pans.  You will pack up camp and depart at first light on the open 4×4 safari vehicles before meeting the Nomad truck in Maun.  The scenic drive from Maun to Nata showcases some of Botswana’s breathtaking landscapes and the rich cultural heritage. Keep an eye open as there is always a chance of a wildlife encounter or two before reaching your overnight destination in Nata.

Day 10 – Nata to Kasane – Chobe National Park
We journey from the Kalahari sands of Nata to Kasane and arrive in time for lunch and a quick siesta before we head out in the afternoon to explore the Chobe National Park from the river, enjoying a leisurely boat cruise which allows us an up close and personal experience with the many elephants that frequent the river in the afternoons.

Day 11 – Zimbabwe -Victoria Falls

With the memories of our wildlife encounters firmly etched in our minds, we cross the border into Zimbabwe this morning and travel the short distance to Victoria Falls. Today you will have the opportunity to visit the spectacular Victoria Falls at your leisure, also known by the local name of “Mosi-oa Tunya” (the smoke that thunders). While much of today is dedicated to viewing the mighty Zambezi River as it drops into the Batoka Gorge below, the bustling adventure town of Victoria Falls also offers a range of optional activities for those wanting a dose of adrenaline in the afternoon. For the more relaxed traveller there are craft markets and coffee shops on offer as well. This evening, you have the option to join the group for an optional dinner at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy a meal and reflect on the day’s adventures. Your guide will arrange a booking for those who wish to participate.
