Overview

Our Botswana Highlights adventure unfurls like an exciting story, beginning in the vibrant town of Victoria Falls. Although it’s not the tallest nor the widest, the charm of this waterfall lies in its enormity, reigning as the world’s most expansive curtain of water. Victoria Falls provides a welcoming introduction to our journey, a hub of exhilaration for thrill-seekers with a wide array of adrenaline-inducing options. We recommend stretching your vacation a bit, arriving a couple of days early to behold the awe-inspiring spectacle of Mosi-Oa-Tunya, aptly known as “The Smoke That Thunders”.

From Victoria Falls, we transition to the mesmerizing landscapes of Botswana, setting camp along the fringes of the Chobe National Park. Here, the safari continues from a vantage point unlike any other – a riverboat navigating the waterways of this iconic park, reputed for its enchanting beauty and prolific wildlife. And for those seeking a closer encounter, an optional terrestrial safari through the park can be arranged.

The expedition heads forward through the vast Makgadikgadi Pans to the remarkable Moremi Game Reserve, a vast arena teeming with nature’s grandeur. Board our open 4×4 safari vehicles designed to maximize your wildlife viewing experience and plunge into the heart of this reserve, nestled between the world-famous Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. The reserve is a magnet for wildlife enthusiasts, renowned for hosting some of the densest concentrations of fauna in Southern Africa.

Our odyssey brings us to the intriguing Khwai Conservation Area, nestled on the Okavango Delta’s northern flank. This expanse is an intricate maze of lagoons, lakes, and concealed channels sprawling across 17,000 square kilometres, forming the planet’s largest inland delta. The Delta’s water levels and temperatures shift drastically between seasons, ensuring that every visit offers a unique vista.

Our stay in Khwai is marked by two nights of absorbing the primal rhythm of Africa. A late afternoon game drive sets the pace, followed by a tranquil journey through the delta on a mokoro, a traditional dug-out canoe, guided by experienced polers. A nature walk will fill our senses with the wild heartbeat of Botswana, punctuating our memorable safari, which concludes in the frontier town of Maun.

This morning you will have the opportunity to participate in the many optional activities on offer in the town of Victoria Falls.  After lunch, we travel the short distance to the Botswana border, crossing into Botswana and will arrive at our accommodation in the late afternoon, to set up camp on the banks of the Chobe River.

Day 3 – Kasane to Nata

We leave the banks of the Chobe River, and head south into the Kalahari Desert. You’ll notice the ‘bushveld’ change as you get closer to our overnight accommodation.

Day 4 – Khwai Conservation Area

You will be separated from your Nomad truck for the next 2 nights and it is therefore important that you pack/gather your personal belongings which you may need, before we depart camp today.  Please pack lightly and only take what you need for the following two nights.   Today we make our way towards the Okavango Delta, stopping at the viewing point of the Salt Pans en-route. Upon arrival in Maun, you will have the opportunity to go on an optional scenic flight over the Delta (time and weather permitting). After your optional flight, you will be collected in Maun in open 4×4 safari vehicles and will be transferred to the Khwai Conservation area.  Our guide will prepare us on what to expect for our afternoon mokoro excursion into the Okavango Delta. (Please note:  It is possible that the mokoro activity could take place the following morning, depending on the season).

Day 5 – Moremi Game Reserve
Today is a full day game drive as we spend most of our day on safari in the Moremi Game Reserve in search of the species that roam the plains.  Expect some bumpy roads as we traverse this wilderness area in our 4×4 vehicles.  Offering habitats from wetland, open water to the grasslands and Savannah woodland, we hope to see as many species of fauna and flora possible.  This evening we arrive back at Khwai to share and compare all the amazing sightings while on safari.

Day 6 – Khwai to Maun

We will depart early this morning in our 4×4 safari vehicles and make our way back to Maun, where we will overnight.
