Overview

Following in Livingstone’s footsteps your journey will begin in Zimbabwe where you will find yourself standing on the edge the “Mosi-oa Tunya” (the smoke that thunders) more commonly known as the mighty Victoria Falls. The next day, with its columns of towering mist disappearing behind you, you will head through to the lush Chobe National Park to experience your first game drive topped off with a scenic sunset boat cruise along the Zambezi river. Having seen some spectacular wildlife, the next day you will depart for the northeast corner of Botswana where you will pass through the bustling town of Kasane before heading on into the Nata sanctuary, situated in the vast Makgadikgadi salt pans frequented by large flocks of pink flamingos. With a night in Maun, before you know it you will be gliding quietly through the numerous waterways of the Okavango Delta in a traditional mokoro. Here you will also be treated to a guided nature walk, a boat cruise and a game drive in one of the top wildlife viewing destinations on the continent. Leaving the waters behind, you will traverse into the heart of the central Kalahari desert to sit side by side with the local bushman as their enchanting stories and songs fill the air. From here, coming to the tail end of your tour with an overnight stop in the quaint village of Kang, you will then travel through to the ‘city of gold’ in Johannesburg, without a doubt touched by the magic of Africa.

Day 01

Victoria Falls

Today we visit the spectacular Victoria Falls, also known by the local name of “Mosi-oa Tunya” (the smoke that thunders). While much of today is dedicated to viewing the mighty Zambezi River as it drops into the Batoka Gorge below, the bustling adventure town of Victoria Falls also offers a range of optional activities for those wanting a dose of adrenaline in the afternoon. For the more relaxed traveller, there are craft markets to explore and a delicious high tea is on offer at the Victoria Falls Hotel. Tonight we enjoy an optional dinner out, your guide will assist you to decide on the many options available.

Day 02

Victoria Falls to Kasane

After breakfast we travel the short distance to the Botswana border, crossing into Botswana we set up camp on the banks of the Chobe River. Our afternoon is set aside for exploring the Chobe National Park. For those who have purchased the Activity Package, we begin our exploration in 4×4 vehicles, which allows us an up close and personal experience with the many elephants that frequent the Chobe riverfront in the afternoons. The afternoon ends with a leisurely boat cruise and a meal served around the campfire.

Day 03

Kasane to Nata

We leave Kasane and travel south towards Nata. Some people also call this route the “game drive route”, as you might see some wildlife while travelling through the area. Upon arrival we will be able to relax and spend some time at the lodge. If times allows we have some activities available to enjoy at sunset.

Day 04

Nata to Maun (Gateway to the Okavango Delta)

Our journey today takes us across the northern reaches of the Makgadigadi Pans, the road from Nata to Maun is lined with majestic examples of the iconic Baobab tree and we will catch glimpses of the extensive pans that stretch out to the South. As portion of our route bisects the Nxai Pan and Makgadigadi National Parks, if we are lucky we may encounter some of the wildlife that roams this vast protected area.

Day 05

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is a unique and unusual ecosystem which sees the annual flood waters of the Okavango River fan out into the sands of the Kalahari Basin. The seasonality of the flood waters lends the Delta its ever changing character. While water levels may fluctuate the tranquillity of this wilderness area remains constant.  This morning we board our plane and take a scenic flight over the Delta to our overnight accommodation for the next two nights.
