So much to do but so little time? Don’t panic, we have a solution!

Serengeti! Okavango Delta! Etosha! Victoria Falls! Mountain Gorillas! Masai Mara! Cape Town! Namib Desert! Zanzibar! Do you know that you can experience all of these on one Nomad Tour? And there are a lot of good reasons the tour is called the “Best Of Africa”! Ok, granted, it is a pretty long tour, but one tour nonetheless! And you can choose to be accommodated all the way or camp if that’s your preference!

Quit your job, take an early retirement or a gap year, fly to Cape Town and start your explorations! If those measures sound a little drastic and you are confined to your two weeks of leave allocation, split this tour into sections, start or finish your tour in just about any capital city in these regions and become a repeat guest! Not only will you have the opportunity to make a better informed decision for your second and third tours, but you will also qualify for a 10% discount on the tour cost of any subsequent tour that you take with us.

There are plenty of excellent reasons why Southern and East Africa attracts the most repeat travellers out of any long haul destination, travel with Nomad and we will show you why!

HOW TO CHOOSE WHETHER TO VISIT SOUTHERN OR EAST AFRICA?

Ultimately, you will need to visit them both but if you haven’t been to Africa before, I would recommend starting off with Southern Africa.

Southern Africa has adapted to its visitors needs and most who are involved in the tourism industry put a lot of effort into ensuring that guests have an incredible all-round experience while visiting. You will find most of your home comforts here and be very surprised at how easy it is to find your way around – especially with English being widely spoken throughout all Southern African countries. The infrastructure is sound and travelling in these areas is “comfortable”.

Our core tours (you’re more than welcome to do sections of these tours) in Southern Africa are:

Camping:

20 Day Vic Falls to Cape Town – available in the opposite direction
20 Day South African Explorer (Cape Town to Johannesburg) – available in the opposite direction
14 Day Discover Mozambique
8 Day Okavango and Chobe Trail (Johannesburg to Victoria Falls) – available in the opposite direction
4 Day Kruger Big 5 Safari Tour

Accommodated:

20 Day Cape Town to Victoria Falls
20 Day South African Explorer (Cape Town to Johannesburg) – available in the opposite direction
14 Day Mozambique in Comfort
8 Day Okavango and Chobe Trail (Johannesburg to Victoria Falls) – available in the opposite direction
4 Day Kruger Big 5 Safari Tour

East Africa is a little more “rustic” and “basic” and they rely heavily on the popularity of their National Parks and the abundance of wild life. It would not be uncommon to go without a hot shower, share a bathroom, spend many hours on the roads if weather conditions are bad, buy your own drinking water… but once you’ve discovered the magic of the people and witnessed the spectacular natural beauty of the herds of animals moving across the plains, everything else will become irrelevant.

Our core tours (you’re more than welcome to do sections of these tours) in East Africa are:

Camping:

21 Day East African Adventure (Victoria Falls to Nairobi) – available in the opposite direction
14 Day Masai Mara and Gorillas Tour

Accommodated:

21 Day East African Adventure (Victoria Falls to Nairobi) – available in the opposite direction
14 Day Masai Mara and Gorillas Tour

If you only have one opportunity to visit and there isn’t the option of doing one tour after the other, consider the time of the year you are travelling and book your destination based on the seasonality and what is really important for you in terms of experiential travel.

ARE YOU A CAMPER OR A LODGER?

On most of our tours we have both camping and accommodated guests travelling together. Other than the tent that you pitch or the bed that you sleep in, everything else about these tours is exactly the same. All meals are prepared at the truck, you have the same guides and the travel times are all the same so that literally is the only decision that you have to make – a bed or a tent.

Camping gives you the freedom to build your own little home every evening, we provide you with comfortable standing height dome tents (unless you’re over 6 foot) and sleeping mattresses. It is more affordable and you don’t have to rely on anyone for anything – only on the heavens when you ask them very kindly not to open up on your tent! If you choose the camping option, when the tour gets to a major city, we will put you up in twin accommodation so that you can have the comfort of a bed for the evening. At most places we visit, there is the opportunity to upgrade to accommodation if you’d like, but it is subject to availability.

The accommodation that we use is 3 – 4 star twin / double accommodation and the majority of it is en-suite. We have selected product that is inkeeping with the areas we visit so there is a good variety. It is important to note that general accommodation standards are higher in Southern Africa than they are in East Africa. The truck will remain in the area where the campers are and one of the guides will take you over to your accommodation – so please remember to pack light!

For both camping and accommodated guests, please be sure to download the full tour dossier and predeparture information from our website (on the specific tour page) before you travel. There is vital information on what to pack and how to pack, and loads of other excellent tips to ensure that we manage your expectations of your tour before you travel. This is an excellent guide for packing for your African adventure tour!
