Day 1: Welcome to Rwanda!

Today you arrive in Kigali, the busy capital of Rwanda. A representative of your accommodation will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel.

You will sleep in a quiet and serene environment. All rooms are non-smoking and are fitted with satellite television, WI-FI access, mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities, private bathroom and have 24-hour room service.

Day 2: To Kisoro / Lake Mutanda

A representative of Mutanda Lake Resort will pick you up from your accommodation. From Kigali you will be transferred in about 4 hours to your accommodation in Uganda. Departure from Kigali is latest at noon time. Your Uganda visa can be obtained from the border.

Please realize that you will be needing an East African single tourist visa costing USD 100 which allows you to move freely within Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.

The accommodations for this night is spectacularly located on a private peninsula stretching into Lake Mutanda. With small islands dotting the surrounding lake and a backdrop of misty volcanoes in nearby Rwanda and DR Congo this setting never fails to impress visitors. The main building where the restaurant is located resembles a Swiss chalet with an African touch, the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner watching otters visiting the shore, or to cuddle up next to the fire place. The cottages are built on a wooden platform, each with private veranda and en-suite bathroom.

From here you will departure tomorrow for the gorilla tracking!

Day 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Gorilla Tracking

Today is the big day… Prepare yourself for an encounter with one of Bwindi’s gentle giants: the rare Mountain Gorilla. For most people this is the absolute highlight of their tour in Uganda.

Your driver will pick you up between 6.00 and 6.30 am from the lodge (confirm with reception of the lodge). He will transfer you to the starting point of the gorilla tracking. He will wait for you and bring you back to the lodge when finished. Don’t’ forget to go with your gorilla permit and your passport (original)

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest boasts both Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees – the only forest in Africa which can make this claim in fact. It also hosts five other species of primate, 113 species of mammal, over 200 butterflies and 360 birds.

The Gorillas you will track belong to one of nine habituated family groups who can tolerate the presence of humans for a brief period every day. Your trek will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the Gorillas’ habitat. En-route, your guide will point out signs of previous Gorilla activity, including dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots.

The time taken to track the Gorillas can take as little as 2 hours to as much as 7 hours before one returns! Once the Gorillas have been located, your group will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. Coming face-to-face with a Mountain Gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience. This is a fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist’.

Day 4: At Mutanda Lake Resort

Today you can Choose from many activities in this wonderful region. You can climb one of the Virunga Mountains, you can visit a Batwa tribe (pygmees), you can make a boat tour on the lake or Canoe and much more.

Day 5: Back to Kigali – Arrival in Tanzania

After breakfast – latest by 10 am – you will be transferred back to Kigali (Airport).
Journey time to Kigali Airport: 4 hours

Today you need to fly to Kilimanjaro Airport (Flight not included- we are able to assist with flight booking if required) or you can stay another night in Rwanda In case you wish us to include one more night in Rwanda, please let us know.

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport you will be greeted by our transfer driver and taken to your hotel close to town.

Day 6 Arusha – Tarangire National Park

In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel to start your safari to the Tarangire National Park. The park is roughly the size of Luxemburg and covers an area of about 2,600 km². Bush savannah, seasonal swamps and giant baobab trees make up the landscape of this nature reserve and the park is probably one of the best places in East Africa to see elephants. Not only are there thousands, but they are also relatively accustomed to vehicles so you will be able to get really close to them. Apart from elephants, the park is also home to Masai giraffes, various gazelles, antelopes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, baboons and more than 500 types of birds. After an extensive game drive you will leave the park in the afternoon and drive to the Maramboi Tented Camp for your overnight stay.

Day 7  Tarangire Region – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast you will drive towards the fertile crater highlands where the Iraqw people grow wheat, corn and coffee. At midday you will reach the plains of the Serengeti National Park, the largest park in Tanzania. The Serengeti has a diversity of landscapes including short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps and lakes and it is famous for the yearly migration when hundred thousands of wildebeest and zebras trek to find fresh grass and water. On your way to your accommodation you will understand, where the word Serengeti (plains in the language of the Masai) comes from. In the early evening you will reach the Serengeti Sopa Lodge, where you will spend the night.

Day 8 Serengeti National Park

The whole day will be spent on a game drive in the Serengeti National Park. The areas you will visit depend upon the location of the herds. During the short rainy season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south while during the longer rainy season from April to June they return back up north. This circle of life is determined by the rainfalls and locations of the herds might vary from year to year but your guide will know where to find the animals and where to see them best. A visit to the Serengeti Visitor Centre is also possible. Here you can learn more about the history of the park and the research that is being done by the Frankfurter Zoological Society.

Day 9 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu

After breakfast you will continue to Ngorongoro Crater, where you will drive down the steep path into the crater just. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest, unbroken and unflooded caldera in the world and it has an unbelievable diversity of wildlife. In addition to zebras and wildebeests, you might also spot the rare black rhino and other members of the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. The crater is also home to other animals such as hyenas, waterbucks, bushbucks, eland and more than 500 bird species. After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch you will leave the caldera in the afternoon and drive to Karatu where you will stay the night.

Day 10 Karatu – Arusha

After a leisurely breakfast, you will travel back to Arusha where you will arrive around midday. You will be dropped off at a hotel of your choice or at the airport.
