When the Dutch settlers arrived in the region, they quickly recognized the richness of Stellenbosch’s soil and started to grow crops and vines on the hills in the vicinity. A culture of viticulture was born and continues to this day. In 1971, Stellenbosch established its wine route, becoming the first wine region in South Africa to do so. Today, this route incorporates over 148 wineries, all of which have unique wines and attractions to offer.
Some of the better known estates include: Delheim, Muratie, Morgenhof, JC Le Roux, Meerlust and Waterford, just to mention a few. Make sure that your Stellenbosch Wine Route tour includes as many estates as possible, so that you get a true taste of the natural splendor and enjoyable offerings of the area.
